South Shore Artists Group of Staten Island - Artists Reception

Group Show for the South Shore Artists Group

Coming to our art gallery in April 2008 is a group show for the South Shore Artists Group. The South Shore Artists Group has displayed their art works in various venues around Staten Island including the Snug Harbor show in September. The group co-sponsors the Annual Conference House show held on the first Sunday in June. This June 2008 is their 43rd year. This talented group of artists includes our March artist Antonio De Santis as well as other notable members.
Recently members of the  Staten Island Artists Group at the request of Tony De Fazio a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Staten Island painted scenes of the Healing Garden, Concord  9/11 memorial.  These paintings were then auctioned off to raise funds for the Healing Garden
A selection of two or three best work from each member participating in the show will be selected for display and sale in the art gallery. We anticipate a collection of 40 - 50 original and unique pieces of art.
An opening reception will be held on Sunday April 6th 2008 beginning at 11:00am and lasting until 5:00pm. The all day reception is a family oriented event and open to the general public.  Coffee and refreshments will be served. We hope you will be able to join us for the show's opening event. Participating member's art will remain on display and can be seen any time throughout the month of April.
We look forward to seeing you in the gallery.
Hidden Talent Art And Framing welcomes the members of the South Shore Artist Group to our gallery and supports their efforts. We wish them a successful show.

A little background on the South Shore Artists Group

The South Shore Artists Group was founded in 1946 by Thea Wilbur Olsen making it one of the oldest artist associations on Staten Island. The first meeting was held at the old Richmond Memorial Hospital. The original gathering of artists from all over Staten Island was to raise money for the hospital. Their paintings were exhibited in the hospital lobby. Soon the members were meeting every Tuesday for sketching field trips, museum visits, and other activities related to developing skills and appreciation of fine art. The group's association with the hospital lasted many years. Eventually the group's meeting place moved to The Staten Island Historical Museum in Richmond Town then onto the Masonic Temple in Great kills and currently every Tuesday at St. Albans Episcopal Church Eltingville.
